Make your first piece of clothing completely yourself
Want to make your wardrobe a little more personal and creative? In this beginner's course, you'll learn step-by-step how to sew clothes from woven (non-stretch) fabrics, no experience required. You choose which item(s) you want to make, so you can create something that perfectly suits your style.
What do you learn?
During this course you will learn the basics of making clothes, step by step:

Using Patterns: How to Read a Pattern and Which Lines and Symbols are Important

Adjusting Patterns: Learn how to make small adjustments to sewing patterns

Choosing and preparing fabric: which fabrics work well for which garment

Laying & cutting fabric: efficient cutting without waste

Sewing your garment: stitching seams and joining parts together

Neat finishing: finish seams, facings, hems and details carefully
You will go home with confidence and skills that you can continue to use.

How does the course work?

Use of sewing machines in the studio
Fabric is not included , but you can bring your own or purchase it in our studio (we always have a nice selection available). It's important that it's a non-stretch (woven) fabric. Cotton and linen are easy to work with. We advise against working with smooth fabrics like satin as a beginner, as it can be very tricky.
How much fabric do you need?

Short: 0.5 - 1 meter

Moet ik een naaimachine meenemen?
Nee, dat hoeft niet! Tijdens de cursus kun je gebruikmaken van onze naaimachines in het atelier. We gebruiken de Pfaff Smarter 160S. Heb je zelf al een machine en wil je daar graag mee leren werken? Dan mag je deze natuurlijk meenemen.
Ook alle tools en benodigdheden zoals (stof)scharen, spelden, meetlinten en andere materialen zijn aanwezig in het atelier.
Heb ik naai-ervaring nodig?
Nee, voor deze cursus heb je helemaal geen naai-ervaring nodig. Deze cursus is speciaal gemaakt voor beginners. We leggen alles stap voor stap uit, zodat je rustig kunt leren naaien op je eigen tempo.
Wat moet ik meenemen?
Wat is inbegrepen?
- Twee patronen met handleiding voor jouw gekozen items, zodat je ze later thuis makkelijk nog eens kunt maken.
- Garen en elastiek
- Gebruik van naaimachines in het atelier
Stof is niet inbegrepen, maar je mag deze zelf meenemen of kopen in ons atelier (er is altijd een fijne selectie aanwezig). Belangrijk is dat het een niet rekbare (geweven) stof is. Katoen en linnen zijn makkelijk te verwerken stoffen. We raden af om als beginner met gladde stoffen zoals satijn te gaan werken, omdat dit erg lastig kan zijn.
Hoeveel stof heb je nodig?
- Short: 1 meter
- Lange broek: 2 - 2,5 meter
- Kimono: 1,5 - 2 meter
- Gilet: 0,5 - 1 meter
- Wikkelrok: 1 - 1,5 meter
Welke taal wordt er gesproken tijdens de cursus?
De cursus wordt zowel in het Nederlands als Engels gegeven.
Kan ik mijn cursus annuleren?
Ja, annuleren is mogelijk tot 2 weken voor aanvang van de cursus. Je ontvangt dan het volledige cursusbedrag terug.
Binnen 2 weken voor aanvang van de cursus is restitutie helaas niet meer mogelijk. Wel mag je jouw plek overdragen aan iemand anders.
